I want to talk to you about biodiversity conservation (Cop21, France)

Monday, April 20th, 2015 (translated by Maryann Avila). Reunion Island (Indian Ocean) – A fatal shark attack committed by a bull shark has Mr Jean-Luc Arassus, president of the French Surfing Federation (FSF) calling for a shark cull in Reunion waters because “ it is time to get back the territory”.

Several brands sponsoring the FSF include Isuzu, Roxy, Quicksilver, Oxbow, O’Neil, Billabong, Adrenaline, RMC, Rip Curl.

Title : I want to talk to you about biodiversity conservation

I am saddened to see that Mr Jean-Luc Arassus, President of the French Surfing Federation, would use the death of a child to speak about him and to ask to cull sharks in the Southern Indian Ocean.

Your brand supports this Federation, by doing so you are associated with the shark cull that the IRD researchers have not even finished studying.

The Surf Federation with her branch called Ecosurf invites others to protect the ocean environment. However, the President calls for mass destruction of predators and distributes shark meat while its sale is prohibited for health reasons (ciguatera), as a danger for human consumption.

I regret to inform you that your brand is associated with this destruction. Your brand will be banished from my purchases. You can also count on me to inform others of your practices of supporting the cull of sharks. That is not conservation, that is the slaughter of a needed species for a healthy ocean.

I ask you to consider changing your practices of supporting this shark cull death. If not I will have no further choice than to inform others of your practices of slaughter.
