Military Exercise Browndown Area 26-27 April 2015 (UK)

  1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Queen’s Harbour Master Portsmouth that from 1000 on Sunday 26 April to 1800 on Monday 27 April 2015 a military exercise will be taking place in the Browndown Amphibious Exercise Area.
    2. During the exercise, two underwater obstacles will be laid, and then recovered using a variety of methods. The obstacles will be laid within an area defined by the following points:
    50 47.25N 001 11.20W
    50 47.20N 001 11.60W
    50 47.08N 001 11.12W
    50 47.00N 001 11.12W.
    3. During the exercise, diving operations will be conducted, and a safety boat, displaying a rigid flag “Alpha” will be on station during diving operations. The safety vessel will be listening to VHF Channel 11 and Channel 12.
    4. Mariners are warned that the minimum depth of water may be reduced in the area during the exercise and are advised to keep clear during the period indicated above. Mariners are further requested to pass at slow speed and give a wide berth when diving operations are underway. QHM Harbour Control is to be informed of any immediate concerns on VHF Ch 11 or by telephoning 02392 723694.

Naval Amphibious Exercise off Browndown-Stokes Bay Areas 27-30 April 2015

  1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Queen’s Harbour Master Portsmouth that commencing Monday 27 April through Thursday 30 April a Naval Amphibious Exercise involving a Royal Fleet Auxiliary (Lyme Bay) will be taking place in the Browndown / Stokes Bay areas of the Central Solent.
  2. The majority of the Amphibious Exercise will be conducted from a Royal Fleet Auxiliary lying at anchor at C Anchorage in the vicinity of Stokes Bay and the beach at Browndown. The exercise will be conducted by both day and night and will include a number of Rotary Wing Aircraft, Landing Craft, Hovercraft and other small boats operating between the Auxiliary at anchor and to or from the foreshore at Browndown. The firing of blank ammunition will take place for some of the exercises.
  3. Mariners are reminded of the requirement to remain at least 50 metres clear of any MOD vessel at anchor as stipulated in the Dockyard Port of Portsmouth Order 2005 and repeated in General Direction 2/15 (Keep Clear of Warships Alongside or at Anchor). For the duration of the exercise, this Exclusion Zone is extended to include all Landing Craft and associated Military Vessels transiting between the vessel at anchor and to or from the shoreline.
  4. Extreme care is to be taken when approaching the Area of operations and QHM Harbour Control is to be informed of any immediate concerns.
  5. For the duration of the amphibious exercise QHM Harbour Control will be kept informed of the area of operations and may be contacted on VHF Ch 11 or by telephoning 02392723689 for the latest information.
