September 27th, 2016 (Shelby Marra). Researchers say one of the three whales that became entangled in fishing lines off the Central Coast this summer has surfaced during the past two weeks off the coast of Newport Beach, mostly near Dana Point.

Sometime between last Saturday and this Sunday, the humpback whale shed the line that had been wrapped around her. The Rescue Team reports the whale is very skinny, but is now feeding now and they hope she will improve.

The researchers believe this is one of the same whales spotted off Avila or Shell Beach in August.
