Fisheries minister orders authorities to stop dolphin hunt in Mirissa sea (Sri Lanka)

October 5th, 2016. Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera orders Sri Lankan navy and coastguards to stop the hunting of whales and dolphins near the sea of Mirissa fisheries harbour. 

The Minister instructed officials to apprehend any fisherman ho engage in such illegal activity. His instructions come after information on whale and dolphin hunting.

Information has come to light violators of international law on whales and dolphin sell their catch in Matara. The minister highlighted that responsibility of protecting the sea mammals which attract tourists to the southern part of the island.
