The moment surfers get together to rescue a stranded whale in Mayo (Ireland)

rescue-whale-irelandNovember 28th, 2016 (Tony Cuddihy).┬áIf you’re not having particularly happy Monday, this will lift your spirits.

Surfers on Killadoon Beach near Louisburgh in Mayo on Sunday got quite a surprise when they came across what appears to be a baby whale that had got stranded┬áin shallow water, but they didn’t take long to work together.

Community spirit is alive and well in the West of Ireland and this remarkable video – filmed by Fionnuala Carter – shows the moment they manage to get the calf free.

There were a few hairy moments but the cheers at the end spoke volumes.

How great is that ?

Thanks to Fionnuala Carter and to Vinnie Quinn for alerting us to this.
