Officers respond to beached whale in Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, USA)

August 3rd, 2014 (Alex Heaton). Myrtle Beach Police responded to reports of a beached whale near 19th Avenue North Sunday evening.

The pygmy sperm whale washed ashore just north of Pier 19 in front of the Sandcastle Resort.

Six officers were dispatched to handle the situation, according to MBPD.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people gathered on the beach to see what officials were going to do with the whale.

Police were not able to return the whale to the ocean because of state and federal laws. (Ed Sibylline : what an hipocrisy !)

The whale, which was still alive several hours after it was beached, was sedated and eventually euthanized because it was too sick to rehabilitate (Ed Sibylline : what kind of sickness ? Strange vet medicine…).

Pygmy sperm whales often beach themselves when sick or near death, according to officials on scene.

Another pygmy sperm whale was euthanized Saturday in Hilton Head Island.

It washed ashore after being attacked by a shark.

Ed Sibylline : It’s time that public uses his power. Contrarily to popular belief, whales and dolphins can survive stranding. The key is to provide the necessary help, a timely response and rehabilitation if needed (we talk about vet medicine supply).

From the old (and real) Stranded No More :

Template (give it to the media when you euthanize a stranded kogia)

1. This is kogia (pygmy sperm whale), she did not die at sea, she stranded alive but she appears to be sick (why? because she stranded)

2. She has no chance of survival (do not ask why and do not ask to give any factual support or previous studies in regard to this statemenet because we have none)

3. She will be euthanized (why? because thats what we do)

4. The necropsy will be conducted

5. It will take months to complete and the report will not be released to anyone for any follow up because 5 months from now you all will forget about this poor little soul.

6. The necropsy report will be inconclusive, because we have twisted logic when on one hand we say it is sick and yet our necropsy cannot find this fatal and incurable sickness

7. We barely know anything about kogia

8. We have no idea why it standed, but we tell everyone she is sick

9. Kogias die in rehab (not gonna tell you about any successful rehan cases, totally irrelevant here)

10. Rest assured we collected tissue samples that will be send to various labs and will give us absolutely no information why this kogia stranded, because we have been doing it for 40 years to no avail.
