Whale stranded on Dhofar beach rescued (Oman sultanate)

Wildlife workers managed to rescue a whale after it was washed ashore at Ras Noos beach in Dhofar Governorate. The rescue operation took long time before the whale was returned to sea.

Wildlife workers managed to rescue a whale after it was washed ashore at Ras Noos beach in Dhofar Governorate. The rescue operation took long time before the whale was returned to sea.

August 3rd, 2014. Salalah Wildlife enthusiasts with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs rescued a whale that was stranded in a beach between Hadbin and Hasik in the Dhofar governorate.

The observers expended great efforts to help return the mammal to deep sea so that it could swim away. 

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs has set up a working group to study the causes of mass mortality of the mammals in cooperation with the Royal Navy, including officials of the ministry and some government agencies.

The working group is tasked with drafting a contingency plan to deal with the deaths of marine mammals and the study of its causes, and management and responding to reports of mass mortality of marine mammals, and the management and control of such deaths.

It will also help locate the displacement of these animals according to the degree of seriousness of each region, and prepare a database and an annual report about such incidents of national marine mammal mortalities.
