July 31st, 2016 (Lea Emery). An 11m humpback whale is once again enjoying it’s freedom after a dramatic rescue in the Gold Coast Seaway.

Queensland Boating and Fisheries officers spent about three hours trying to remove 7m of fishing net from the whale.

The whale was seen struggling by two jet skiers who did what they could before alerting marine rescuers on Saturday.

Two boats travelled alongside the whale, using a 3pm pole and specialised cutting knife to remove the rope.

The fisheries officers were able to remove the fishing net after a couple of hours attempting to cut the white and red rope.
